CA Senate District 17: 2020 Election Results

Voters have decided who will serve the Central Coast and South Bay state senate district.

CENTRAL COAST, CA — The polls have closed and Central Coast and some South Bay voters will decide whether Democrat and longtime public official John Laird or Republican businesswoman Vicki Nohrden should replace incumbent state Sen. Bill Monning, who has hit his term limit.

Laird maintained a significant lead Tuesday night. Here's the latest count:

The 17th state senate district includes Santa Cruz and San Luis Obispo counties, coastal Monterey County and the Gilroy area.

Laird and Nohrden were the top vote-getters in the March primary. Laird led with 44 percent of the vote, while Nohrden garnered 32 percent of the vote. Democrats Maria Cadenas and John M. Nevill split the remaining 24 precent of the vote.
