Depot Park Stabbing Suspect Arrested

SANTA CRUZ, CA — A suspect has been arrested in the fatal stabbing of a man early Sunday at Depot Park on Center Street, Santa Cruz police said.

Officers dispatched to an "assault with a deadly weapon" report at the park about 3 a.m. found an unresponsive man in the parking lot with multiple stab wounds.

Immediate care was given to the victims until paramedics arrived for more treatment, before the 43-year-old man was taken to Dominican Hospital.

The victim was pronounced dead at the hospital. Witnesses gave police a description of a man who fled the scene and a search turned up a subject who matched the description and was later positively identified.

The subject was taken into custody and later booked for murder at Santa Cruz County Jail.

The identity of the suspect is being withheld at this time "pending additional witness follow-up," police said in an announcement.
