James D. Houston, local writer and teacher, was beloved to many in Santa Cruz County. At the time of his death in 2009 he was working on his masterpiece, A Queen's Journey, a work of fiction based on the story of Hawaii's last monarch. This unfinished work stands alone as a stunning piece of history, and will be released next month. In celebration, a launch party will be held at the Cabrillo College Music Recital Hall on October 23, 2:30-4:30pm.
There will be short readings by esteemed writers Wallace Baine, Alan Cheuse, Rory Criss, Geoffrey Dunn, Karen Joy Fowler, Stephen Kessler, Maxine Hong Kingston, Forrest Robinson, Karen Tei Yamashita, and Al Young. Music by Braddah Timmy.
