Project 365: Day By Day

Project 365: Day by Day, an exhibit of engaging photographs and observations from Susan Lysik's daily illustrated journal, runs from Friday, April 6 through Wednesday, May 30, 2012 in the Meeting Room of the Downtown branch of the Santa Cruz Public Libraries 224 Church Street in Santa Cruz.

An opening reception is scheduled for Friday, April 6 from 5 to 8 pm, and is a stop on the landmark 100th First Friday Art Tour.

Well into the third year of her daily on-line blog, Susan Lysik uses her commitment to make and post a photo every day as a vehicle to explore the dynamic connections between imagery and language and to offer an extraordinary and subjective look at the unexpected richness of daily life. Plants, animals, insects, landscape, still life--a broad variety of subjects is inspiration for this curious eye. What began as a lark has become an enriching practice, a training, and has evolved to something more like a philosophy, a guide to living and appreciating and paying attention.

Project 365: Day by Day is presented as two complementary sections. In recreating the look of the daily blog, One a Day is a challenging translation from the computer to the gallery and imparts a sense of the scope of the online experience.  The second part of the exhibit, Reconstructions, is a series of simple triptychs crafted from selected blog entries. Handwritten text hints at the relationships that link the photographs, while celebrating the warmth and presence of the human hand.
