Fights Prompts High School Lockdown In Santa Cruz Tuesday
Police said a resident near the school confronted a suspect who was urinating in public and a fight ensued.

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Santa Cruz High School was locked down for a short period of time on Tuesday after a fight started nearby because a resident confronted someone who got out of their car and urinated a curb, police said. Officers responded to a fight and possible shots fired in the 500 block of Lincoln Street, about two blocks from the high school, at 2 p.m.
When officers arrived, they learned that the fight took place after an argument between the suspect who got out of their green SUV and a resident who tried to speak with him. Passengers got out of the SUV and confronted the resident as well as the resident's family members when a fight broke out and a suspect reportedly brandished a pistol, according to police.
The pistol had been tucked into the suspect's waistband. After the fight, the suspects who emerged from the SUV jumped back in and fled, police said. Because of the proximity of the altercation to the high school,
located at 415 Walnut Ave., and a weapon being involved, a lockdown was initiated. However, the lockdown lasted only 13 minutes. It was lifted once the suspects fled.
