Former Santa Cruz Co. Alcohol And Drug Program Director Killed In Collision
Dr. Bill Manov worked for the county from 1988 through 2016.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — The former Santa Cruz County Alcohol and Drug Program Director was killed in a collision this week near Lemoore, county officials said in a statement.
Dr. Bill Manov, 65, who worked for the county from 1988 through 2016, was beloved by his former coworkers. Manov retired last September. County officials extended their condolences to the Manov family.
“Bill’s leadership on drug and alcohol treatment issues was surpassed only by his kindness as a human being,” County Administrative Officer Susan A. Mauriello said. “Bill designed many programs over the years that benefitted Santa Cruz County, and he helped break down the barriers around the treatment of substance abuse. He was a great friend and a great partner, and he will be missed.”

“The Health Services Agency lost a cherished member of our family yesterday. We are deeply saddened by Bill’s death. His many years as a dedicated public servant have created a deep and enduring impact on our community, and within our agency. The loss to his family and the County is profound,” Health Services Director Giang Nguyen said.
“Bill was a truly incredible person and he cared deeply about Santa Cruz and the recovery community. Bill was a tireless advocate for people in need and he positively impacted many, many lives. I will miss Bill’s partnership, his kindness and his positive outlook on life. My deepest condolences go out to Bill’s family and all of the people he helped during his career,” Sheriff Jim Hart said.
