Man Suffering From Opioid Overdose In Parked Car Rescued

Deputies used two doses of Narcan to reverse the effects of the opioid.

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — Santa Cruz County sheriff's deputies used nalaxone to save a man suffering from an opioid overdose on Tuesday evening, sheriff's officials said. Deputies responded to the man sitting in his parked car at about 6:40 p.m. at Graham Hill Road. He was barely breathing and had a faint pulse.

Deputies used two doses of the drugs to reverse the effects of the opioid and the man regained consciousness. He was then taken to a local hospital.

The Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office received training to use Narcan, a brand of nalaxone, in 2017. The department said it has enabled them with "critical lifesaving capabilities."
