Police Ask For Help Finding Attempted Home Invasion Suspect: SCPD

SANTA CRUZ, CA — Santa Cruz police are requesting help from the public in finding a man who attempted to force his way into a home last week. Around 4 p.m. on Feb. 22, the suspect knocked on a front door in the 1000 block of Carbonera Drive, according to police. When a 40-year-old woman opened the door to greet him, he told her he wanted to "talk about the good book."

The suspect asked if "the man of the house" was home and made comments in regard to the woman's age, police said. During this conversation, the man asked to come inside the house, but she told him no. According to police, the homeowner tried to end the conversation and close the door. The man used both hands and started pushing it back open, at which point the woman placed her foot on the wall as leverage to successfully force it closed.

Police said the victim yelled and screamed that she was calling police, and the suspect took off on foot toward El Rancho Drive. The suspect is described as a clean-shaven white male with a medium to heavy build and was wearing a light blue dress shirt and a black shirt. He was holding a book. Police today released a sketch of him.

Santa Cruz police are investigating the case and are asking anyone with information to call the department's Investigation Unit at (831) 420-5280.
