One of the aspects of the City of Santa Cruz Re-Envision Santa Cruz initiative is workforce development – an effort to expand opportunities for development of workers in our community to work in skilled trades positions such as carpenters, plumbers, electricians, mechanics, and many more.

The announcement below is for applications for theTri-County Apprenticeship Preparation Program that gives participants information about construction positions and provides training that facilitates transitioning to skilled trades apprenticeships. Applications are due by June 13th.

The class is held in conjunction with the Workforce Development Boards of Monterey, Santa Cruz, and San Benito Counties. It covers the world of construction, what it is to work in construction, what is required to be a construction worker, and how to get into a construction apprenticeship. The class is 144 hrs. Upon graduation the students receive The National Multi Core Craft Curriculum Certificate from the National Building Trades Council, OSHA 10 Cert., First Aid/CPR Card, a set of Redwing work boots, a small set of tools, and a stipend. Also, students will be followed for 1 year to assist them in getting into an apprenticeship or work.

The class will start June 20 and run from 8 am until 4 pm Monday through Friday until complete. Those who may be truly interested in getting into construction and who have what it takes to complete the effort are ideal candidates.
