Santa Cruz City Council: Election Results
Nine candidates faced off to fill four of the six seats on the Santa Cruz City Council.
SANTA CRUZ, CA — Santa Cruz voters appeared poised to serve two incumbents and two political newcomers to fill four open spots on the six-seat council as of Wednesday morning.
All of the nine candidates who vied for the seats are women.
Sonja Brunner, business community director and incumbent Martine Watkins were the top two vote-getters — each earning nearly 15% of the vote — with all precincts reported as of Wednesday morning. Brunner came in first, receiving just 100 more votes than Watkins.

Incumbent Sandy Brown came in third place with 14% of the vote, while nonprofit strategic manager Shebreh Kalantari-Johnson received 13% of the vote as of Wednesday morning.
They faced challenges from: Kayla Kumar, nonprofit executive: (12%); Maria Cadenas, nonprofit executive director (10%); Kelsey Hill, nonprofit program director (9%); Elizabeth Conlan, scientist (7%); and Alicia Kuhl, wellness specialist (5%).
