Santa Cruz Launches Sewer Lateral Blog

The blog is an educational resource providing information, describing proposed changes, and more.

From the City of Santa Cruz Public Works: The City of Santa Cruz and the Coastal Watershed Council have collaborated on a new Sewer Lateral blog. The blog is an educational resource providing information on how proper sewer lateral maintenance can protect local waterways. It also describes proposed changes to the City’s Sewer System Ordinance pertaining to lateral maintenance.

The Sewer Lateral blog will teach the community about how to prevent sewage leaks from faulty private sewer laterals — the pipes that move wastewater from homes to sewer mains. It is the responsibility of homeowners and businesses to maintain their sewer laterals which can crack over time and leak into local rivers.

The blog informs homeowners and business owners of how they can save money and improve water quality in the San Lorenzo River and Monterey Bay by getting sewer laterals inspected by a professional.
