Santa Cruz Sheriff Issues July 4 Warning
You can have a good time without ruining it for someone else.
From the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office: The Sheriff’s Office will have over 70 deputies and sergeants patrolling our community to ensure the safety of our community. Enforcement priorities include possession of fireworks, public intoxication, consuming alcohol in public and open containers. Fines may be up to $1,000-dollar for certain violations. Firework suppression teams will be watching for violations of the county fireworks ordinance and taking enforcement action. Do not let a costly citation ruin your holiday. Here is how to avoid trouble:
- NO FIREWORKS! Fireworks of any kind are not allowed in unincorporated Santa Cruz County including such as County beaches, North Coast, Davenport, Bonny Doon, San Lorenzo Valley, Live Oak, Soquel, Aptos, Corralitos, and Freedom.
- NO DRUNKENESS! You can’t argue with drunks, so we won’t – we will just take them away. Alcoholic beverages are not allowed on County beaches or in public outside commercial establishments or residences.
- NO EXPLOSIVES! If you see what looks like a homemade explosive, stay back, call 911, and wait for law enforcement. Every year, our Bomb Team responds to homemade devices, often made with gunpowder – DANGEROUS AND STUPID!
- NO TRASH! Every year our wonderful locals clean up after people who trash our beaches and neighborhoods. We don’t want garbage on our beaches. Pack your trash. Help us make this 4th of July a safe celebration for everyone.
Fireworks are a noise nuisance and we will be proactively looking for violations. Please reserve 911 and our dispatch center (831-471-1121) for issues related to public safety.
