SANTA CRUZ, CA — While you were sleeping at 6:40 a.m. on Tuesday, a cougar was spotted taking a morning stroll through a neighborhood in the 200 block of Alta Vista Drive.

A video captured by a doorbell surveillance camera appears to show motion-detecting lights flickering on as the mountain lion slinks across a path to the front door and toward the driveway, as seen on video posted Jan. 14 to the Neighbors app. The animal was only captured for a couple of seconds before it picked up speed and trotted around the corner, out of the camera's view.

If you encounter a cougar, it's best to make yourself look as big and be as loud as possible.
