SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — NWS warned of beach hazards in Santa Cruz County and the California coastline from Sonoma County to Monterey County, until 9 a.m. Wednesday. The advisory previously expired Tuesday afternoon, but was extended.

A long northwesterly swell was expected to bring big breakers, and possible sneaker waves and rip currents that could sweep unsuspected beachgoers to sea.

Showers also passed over the region on Tuesday. Weather officials had forecast light rain in the Central Coast, with rain first reaching the North Bay by mid-morning and spreading south to the Monterey Bay by the evening. Most areas were expected to see up to a half-inch of rain, according to the National Weather Service, with up to an inch of rain in the Santa Cruz mountains.
