Traffic Delays Likely: PG&E Begins California and Laurel Project

PG&E begins California and Laurel Project with traffic impacts.

SANTA CRUZ, CA - From the County of Santa Cruz Department of Public Works: Pacific Gas and Electric Company has begun preliminary work on their California and Laurel Project to enhance pipeline safety and reliability in the City of Santa Cruz. The project which will install new pipe is expected to continue until late October. Work locations are on California Street near the intersection of Acadia Avenue, to Laurel Street, from Laurel Street to Felix Street, as well as to the end of Felix and Neary streets.

This work may affect traffic at times with lane closures and traffic control; travelers should plan for minor delays. Work is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 5 p.m. PG&E is clearly marking all work areas and will provide flaggers as needed to help direct traffic.

The project will excavate around existing underground pipeline and install new pipe using industry recognized and proven techniques. Construction is not expected to interrupt gas service.

Part of this work includes a controlled and safe release of a small amount of natural gas in order to empty the pipeline for replacement. There may be a loud steady noise and some smell of gas. This is normal while crews are working, but anyone with concerns should call 1-800-743-5000.

PG&E appreciates the public’s patience for the duration of this work. Any questions may be directed to Melanie Glennen at 831-479-5826 or gasprojectinfo@pge.com.
