Triple Fines Downtown for New Year's Eve, Parking Restrictions

Santa Cruz Police are calling in the entire department to crackdown on New Year's revelers.

They have also zoned the downtown a "Safety Enforcement Zone," meaning that fines for things such as drinking in public triple and can amount to $900. It's the same thing they do on Halloween and Fourth of July.

Some roads will be closed and parked cars will be towed.

They are: Knight Street, from 8 a.m. Dec. 31 to 2 a.m. Jan. 1; North Pacific Ave. from River to Water streets, 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31 to 12:45 a.m. Jan. 1; Bulkhead Street from 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31 to 12:45 a.m. Jan. 1; Water St. between River and Center streets, from 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31 to 12:45 a.m. Jan. 1.

There will be no parking on Front Street between Water and River streets from 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31 to 12:45 a.m. Jan. 1.

And no parking on Pacific Ave from Locust to Water streets from 10:30 p.m. Dec. 31 to 12:45 a.m. Jan. 1.
