SANTA CRUZ, CA -- A fire erupted Wednesday morning near UC Santa Cruz, officials said. Cal Fire officials said the vegetation fire burned heavy fuels near Pogonip Park and the university.
Firefighters from Cal Fire and Santa Cruz Fire were called to the scene and were able to stop the forward progress of the two-acre fire about an hour later.
Crews are expected to remain at the scene for the remainder of the day to mop up, Cal Fire said.
