Bloomingdale's To Close Santa Monica Store
Bloomingdale's will close its Santa Monica store, company officials announced this week.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Bloomingdale's will close its Santa Monica store in the spring, company officials announced this week.
The store is located at Santa Monica Place, 315 Colorado Ave.
Macy's, the parent company of Bloomingdale's, plans to close three dozen stores nationwide in 2021, including two in California, according to multiple reports.

The company comprises three retail brands, Macy’s, Bloomingdale’s and Bluemercury. Macy’s, Inc. is headquartered in New York, New York.
The California Macy's stores slated for closure are at Hilltop Mall in Richmond and Parkway Plaza in El Cajon, according to USA Today.

Clearance sales at all locations are expected to begin this month and run for eight to 12 weeks, officials said.
Macy's told the Chicago Tribune that the closures are "part of the company's strategy to right-size its store fleet, announced in early 2020."
Macy's announced earlier this year that it would right-size in response to the coronavirus pandemic, which hit retailers hard. Macy's in particular has reported a 20 percent quarterly decline in same-store sales. Plans include closing 125 large department stores in favor of smaller stores under 20,000 square feet, Forbes reported in September.
“COVID-19 has significantly impacted our business. While the re-opening of our stores is going well, we do anticipate a gradual recovery of business, and we are taking action to align our cost base with our anticipated lower sales,” Jeff Gennette, chairman and chief executive officer of Macy’s, Inc., said in June 2020.
