City Council Sends OMA Project Back to the Drawing Board

The Santa Monica City Council rejected 5-1, the Rem Koolhaas mixed used development as currently presented to its members on Aug. 27.

In a 5-1 vote on Aug. 27, the Santa Monica City Council rejected the Rem Koolhaas-designed major mixed-use development slated to be built by OMA on City property at 4th and Arizona.

The 148 foot tall, 400,000 square foot project wasn’t completely nixed. Rather the council has sent the company back to the drawing board – giving the development team led by Metropolitan Pacific Capital, Clarett West, and DLJ West Capital, three months to revamp the proposal.

What do you think of the council’s decision? What do you hope the revised plans will look like? Tell us in the comments.
