On June 1, 2021, at approximately 11:28 pm, Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) Officers responded to assist the Fire Department (FD) at a structure fire in a rear house in the 1400 block of 6th Street. Officers contacted the owners of the property and arranged for the alley gates to be unlocked so that the Fire Department could fight the blaze. The owners told officers the rear house was unoccupied and should be empty.

When the fire was contained, fire fighters and officers located a male subject semi-conscious and covered in soot lying under a blanket on furniture outside the rear house. The subject, Shane Adam Honaker, a 33-year-old male from Los Angeles, was unknown to the property owners and trespassing.

Most of the fire damage was in a bathroom in the rear house. The cause of the blaze is currently unknown, but FD arson investigators responded along with SMPD forensics personnel to gather additional information.

Honaker was transported to the Santa Monica Jail where he was booked for 602.5(b) PC – Trespassing while the resident is at home and 452 (b) PC – Recklessly Causing any Structure to Burn. Per current LA County bail regulations, Honaker with released with a citation.
