Coroner IDs Woman Killed In Highway 111 Crash

The fatal crash was reported at approximately 6:45 a.m. on the southbound side of the highway in Palm Springs.

PALM SPRINGS, CA — A woman killed in a solo-vehicle crash Tuesday morning on state Route 111 in Palm Springs has been identified by the Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner's Bureau as a Santa Monica resident.

Martha Martinez, 61, died at the crash scene after the 1999 Ford Explorer she was driving went off the roadway, south of Overture Drive.

The wreck was reported at approximately 6:45 a.m.

Martinez was traveling at an unknown speed on the southbound side of the highway when she lost control and veered onto the roadway's right shoulder. The SUV crashed into a cable fence and overturned, landing on its wheels in the dirt shoulder, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Jackie Quintero.

Martinez was not wearing her seatbelt, Quintero said.

Alcohol and/or drugs have not been ruled out as possible crash factors, Quintero said Tuesday.
