Earth Day Beach Cleanup Planned In Santa Monica

SANTA MONICA, CA — Locals are invited to help make a difference along the coast with a special Earth Day beach cleanup in Santa Monica Thursday.

Santa MoniCARES will host the cleanup at the Santa Monica Pier from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

"We will be making a donation for Earth Day to Heal the Bay to help support and further their mission of making the coastal waters in Greater Los Angeles safe, healthy, and clean," Santa MoniCARES said on its website.

Register to join the event on the website. The organization plans to split into groups for the cleanup.

From Thursday through June 1, the organization is offering cleanup kits to help pick up trash in the neighborhood. You can snap a photo of yourself or your group when you’re out cleaning and post on your social channels using #WeAreSantaMonica and #SantaMoniCARES for a chance to win a $100 gift card to a Santa Monica business.

Kits will be available for pick up at Santa Monica Locations through August 31.

"After your cleanup, dispose items collected in the appropriate receptacle, wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water, and sanitize all gear used including personal objects, like your cell phone," organizers said.

Kits are available for pick up at the following locations throughout Santa Monica:

  • Downtown Santa Monica, Inc. Ambassador Desk: Parking Structure 4, 1321 2nd St (access from the alley); 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily
  • Perry’s: 2400 Ocean Front Walk; 9:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily
  • Santa Monica Visitor Information Centers: 2427 Main St / 1400 Ocean Ave; Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Ten Women Gallery: 1128 Montana Ave; noon to 6 p.m. daily
  • Pier Shop & Visitor Center: 200 Santa Monica Pier, Wednesday through Sunday; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
