Heal The Bay Appoints New CEO

Following an extensive national search, the Santa Monica-based environmental group Heal the Bay has appointed Ruskin Hartley as its new CEO. Ruskin will officially start his duties on Sept. 16.

Born and raised in rural southern England by an architect and urban planner, Ruskin trained as a geographer at Cambridge University. A veteran environmentalist, he  worked at the Save the Redwoods League in San Francisco for 15 years, spending six of those as that organization’s executive director. The League has helped protect over 180,000 acres of redwood forests in its 100-year history, and created over 39 redwood state parks and preserves.

According to an official Heal the Bay statement, Ruskin has a long standing commitment to clean and healthy water, having spent a summer in Oman researching traditional irrigation systems and groundwater recharge. 

Ruskin will also be taking part in Heal the Bay’s Sept. 21, Coastal Cleanup Day at the Santa Monica Tower 1550 site.
