Heat Advisory In Effect In Santa Monica

The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Southern California Thursday.

SANTA MONICA, CA — The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory for Santa Monica and throughout Southern California Thursday.

The advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. Thursday for Santa Monica, Malibu, Beverly Hills, Hollywood, Long Beach, Santa Paula, Fillmore, Ojai, Piru, Thousand Oaks, Simi Valley, Moorpark, Newbury Park, Santa Clarita, Newhall, Valencia, Woodland Hills, Northridge, Burbank, Universal City, Pasadena, San Gabriel and Pomona.

Temperatures from 85 to 90 degrees are expected near the coast and 90 to 100 inland, according to the weather service. The warmest areas are expected to be in the Los Angeles and Ventura County valleys.

"Hot temperatures could linger well into the evening and some areas may not drop below 70 degrees overnight," the weather service reports.

Officials recommend taking extra precautions, staying hydrated and drink water, and reducing outdoor work.
