Homeless Man Charged with Vandalism

Eric Daniel Rodriguez, 26, reportedly smashed a woman's car window with his skateboard on 2nd Street and Broadway in Santa Monica.

The following information was provided by the Santa Monica Police Department.

On Sept. 2 at approximately 2:30 p.m. a woman driving southbound on 2nd Street waiting to make a left turn onto Broadway heard and felt a smash to one of her windows. When she looked in her rear view mirror she saw a male Hispanic with a skateboard on his shoulder after just swinging it at her window. 

The suspect continued to walk away eastbound on Broadway. The victim saw a SMPD Traffic Service Officer (TSO) and asked him for assistance. The TSO requested officers to respond via his police radio. When officers arrived on the scene the suspect began to run away.

Officers stopped the suspect at the corner of 4th Street and Broadway. The suspect threw himself to the ground. The suspect refused to comply with officers orders and flailed on the ground.  

Officers ordered the suspect to comply with their orders.  While trying to detain him, the suspect jumped up and fled from the officers. One officer deployed his X26 Taser and the suspect was taken into custody without further incident.  The suspect was booked in Santa Monica Jail.
