LA DA's Office Declines To File Charges Against Homicide Suspect
The Los Angeles District Attorney's office declined to file homicide charges against a 28-year-old Long Beach man accused of murder.
SANTA MONICA, CA — The Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office declined to file charges this week against a 28-year-old Long Beach man suspected in a fatal stabbing attack Monday at Third Street Promenade, officials said.
Sean Alexander Graves, 28, of Long Beach, was booked on suspicion of murder. He was later released from custody, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.
Detectives from the Santa Monica Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division Wednesday presented the homicide case involving Graves to the Airport Branch of the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office.

"From when the incident occurred until the case was presented to the District Attorney’s Office, detectives reviewed numerous pieces of evidence including witness statements, evidence found at the crime scene, and video footage," police said. "Detectives determined that the individuals associated with the decedent were in possession of a handgun as they followed Graves and his female companion, and at some point, discharged that weapon."
"Based on this information, the District Attorney’s Office believed that Graves may have acted in self-defense," police said

The incident is still under investigation.
"SMPD detectives are asking for the public’s help," police said.
