Man Charged With Attempted Murder In Santa Monica Alley Beating

Santa Monica Police officers found the victim suffering blunt force trauma to the head.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Police arrested a suspect in the attempted murder of a battered transient man found in a Santa Monica alley, authorities announced Wednesday.

Kevin Fremlin was charged with one count each of attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a deadly weapon. He is being held on $1,050,000 bail.

The Santa Monica Police Department responded to the 1500 block of Alley 12 at about 6 a.m. Monday. Officers found a 56-year-old man lying on the ground, who appeared to be the victim of a serious assault, the SMPD news release said. The victim was sleeping in the alley, and the attack was "unprovoked," SMPD told Patch.

"The victim, who was conscious and speaking with officers, suffered what appeared to be blunt force trauma to his upper body, including his face and head," Santa Monica police said.

The victim gave officers a detailed description of the suspect. Officers searched the area and found a man who matched the description near 12th Street and Wilshire Boulevard. Fremlin was arrested and taken to the Santa Monica Police Department.
