Man Charged With Assault and Intent to Commit Rape

Daniel Crespo allegedly straddled a woman as she was sunbathing on Santa Monica Beach.

On Aug. 23,  a patrol unit was dispatched to an attempted sexual assault that had just occurred on the 2000 block of the beach.

Upon arrival officers made contact with the victim who appeared to be in distress and was visibly upset.  She told the officers that she had been laying on her stomach, face down, sunbathing, when someone came up from behind and straddled her buttocks/upper thigh area.

The male subject then began tugging at her unclipped bikini top with his hands.  She then began to scream frantically for anyone to help. A few seconds later she was able to push the male subject off of her.  After being pushed off the subject remained quiet and began walking nonchalantly southbound to parking Lot # 4.
