Murder Suspect Arrested In Stabbing Attack That Left One Dead

A murder suspect was arrested after an attack Monday that left one man dead, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

SANTA MONICA, CA —A 28-year-old Long Beach man was arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of a man near the 3rd Street Promenade, police said Tuesday.

An altercation between the victim, suspect and a woman started at the Santa Monica Pier and ended up in the 300 block of Broadway around 7:30 p.m. Monday, police said.

Officers were called to investigate after a report of gunshots. When they arrived, they found a man with a stab wound on his neck, police said. He was taken to a hospital, where he died from his injuries.

"Witnesses who were with the victim provided a description of both subjects along with their last known direction of travel," police said. "At one point during this altercation, a shot was fired and a spent .45 cal casing was located. However, it is unclear who fired that round."

Officers searched the area and found the suspect and woman near 6th Street and Santa Monica Boulevard, police said. They were identified by the witnesses as suspects involved in the incident and were taken into custody.

"Officers located a knife believed to be used by the suspect," police said.

Sean Alexander Graves, 28, of Long Beach, was booked on suspicion of murder. His bail was set at $2M. He is scheduled to appear at LAX Superior Court Wednesday morning.

The woman with Graves was interviewed then released, police said.

The victim's name was not immediately available.
