New Santa Monica Facebook Page Serves as 'Central Source of Info'

The city of Santa Monica launched a new Facebook page this week, aimed at providing residents with the latest happenings, public safety announcements and policies.

The city already has more than 50 Facebook accounts for its different events, programs and departments. Those will stick around, according to Robin Gee, Santa Monica's public information manager.

Recently, the city was recognized by the Public Technology Institute as a leader in the strategic and innovative application of Web 2.0 technologies and civic/social media tools.  

Santa Monica is one of nine city, county, and state governments nationwide to achieve this recognition based on results in citizen engagement, government accountability and operational efficiencies.
