In March 2020 California governor Gavin Newsom ordered California into a statewide lockdown, ushering the closure of non-essential retail stores and recreational areas. While such measures have proven to be effective in reducing the spread of coronavirus, many Californians mourn the days when they could go out and enjoy places outside of their neighborhood.

Recently, Los Angeles County officials have decided to open parks, beaches, and trails. May 16 was the first Saturday in over two months where residents could enjoy a nice day out at the edge of the coastline. Here is what that means for Santa Monica apartment and home residents.

Santa Monica State Beach is finally reopened. The pier and bike trails remain closed, but beachgoers are permitted to take a stroll down the beach, if they maintain a six-feet distance from others. Tennis courts have also been permitted to reopen for singles play at Reed Park, close to Downtown Santa Monica. Face masks are required. While social distancing restrictions remain, this provides Santa Monica residents with an opportunity to get out of their Santa Monica apartments.
