Santa Monica Pier Gets Spooky Design For Halloween
The Santa Monica Pier's Pacific Wheel will feature ghosts and a sugar skull design on the 90-foot tall attraction.

SANTA MONICA, CA — It's about to get spooky this Halloween at the Santa Monica Pier and Pacific Park.
The 90-foot tall Ferris wheel will feature a high-flying ghost and sugar skull, along with a smiling vampire, grinning jack-o-lantern and other designs for Halloween and Dia de Los Muertos.
People can expect to see the light show at Pacific Park, 380 Santa Monica Pier from Saturday through Monday from about 6 p.m. to midnight.

Halloween is celebrated in many countries on October 31. It's known as a time to remember loved ones who have passed, as well as celebrate the end of the harvest season. Similarly, Dia de Los Muertos, Day of the Dead, is a Mexican holiday widely celebrated on November 1 and November 2, involving family and friends gathering to remember the people they have lost.
The Pacific Wheel is the world’s only solar-powered Ferris wheel. It features 174,000 LED lights that are mounted on the Ferris wheel’s 40 spokes and two hubs. The Ferris wheel’s lighting system features 16.7 million color value combinations while the programming and display software present imaging up to 24 frames per second to display dynamic, custom, computer-generated lighting entertainment.

The pier is now open 24 hours but the Pacific Park on the Santa Monica Pier’s rides and attractions, including the Pacific Wheel and West Coaster, remain closed until further notice.
