Santa Monica Police Increase Helicopter Patrols After Election

Santa Monica police have increased helicopter and ground patrols across the city on Election night.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Santa Monica police have increased helicopter patrols on Election night, telling residents to expect to hear some noise as police in the region are on tactical alert Tuesday night.

"SMPD continues to supplement its on-the-ground presence with helicopter patrols to provide us with additional situational awareness," police said. "We appreciate your understanding as we use all the tools at our disposal to keep #SantaMonica safe."

Businesses across Santa Monica, Venice and Los Angeles County have boarded up with plywood in anticipation of what could happen following the election.

"The LAPD has declared a citywide tactical alert to ensure sufficient resources to address any incidents that may arise as a result of Election Day activities, but is not a result of any specific incident," LAPD officials said.
