Santa Monica Reacts To Projected Biden Win

People cheered, honked and danced in Santa Monica following the news that Joe Biden is the projected winner over Donald Trump.

SANTA MONICA, CA — Santa Monica erupted into cheers, screaming and cars honking throughout the city Saturday morning following the news that Joe Biden is the projected winner over Donald Trump.

Outside Urth Caffe on Main Street, cars passed by with people celebrating and holding signs. From Ocean Park to Venice, people played music and sounded pots, pans and danced in the streets.

On Abbot Kinney in Venice, people were singing and dancing, closing down the street for an outdoor dance party celebration.

Cody Temple and Morgan Linkhorst live in Venice and heard about the dance party on Instagram. They wanted to be there.

"I feel great," Temple told Patch. "I think everyone's happy. This isn't over yet, but it's a good start I hope the next four years is run by somebody who can actually make change for the better and not for worse."

They feel hopeful.

"We were like, 'let's go celebrate," Linkhorst told Patch. "Everybody has just been freaking out all day and everybody's so happy to finally get Trump out of office. We're all happy, we're all partying."

Linkhorst woke up to tons of texts from friends and family about the news on Saturday.

"It feels like a weight off your shoulders," she said. "It's crazy."
