Save A Server, Help A Restaurant: Order Takeout In L.A.

LOS ANGELES, COUNTY, CA — Restaurant owners are sending out an SOS to Greater Los Angeles diners: Keep us in mind, and order takeout and delivery meals from your local establishments.

With health officials' mandates restricting in-house dining, coupled with bar and winery closings, to combat the spread of the new coronavirus, many local eateries are struggling and turning to takeout and delivery — some for the first time — to stay in business.

One eatery, Noble Bird Rotisserie in Long Beach, a newbie on the restaurant scene having opened in January, is braced for a 50-percent to 70-percent drop in sales as it switches to takeout and delivery only, said owner Sidney Price.

"We completely reformatted our organization, schedules, labor, and marketing efforts," Price said. "We are peddling as fast as we can and pivoting as quickly as the news conferences and ordinances come in."

Some restaurant owners are getting creative in their bids to attract take-out customers.

In Studio City, Vitello's, a legendary 60-year-old Italian restaurant, is promoting its take-out orders for such family-size entrees as lasagna and spaghetti, tossing in a free roll of toilet paper per order, something a spokesperson said will hopefully make customers smile.
