Attempted Murder Suspect Leads Santa Monica Police On Chase

A man who attempted to stab his girlfriend in Santa Monica led police on a chase and K-9 search Sunday night, police said.

SANTA MONICA, CA — A man accused of attempting to stab and kill his girlfriend with a large knife led police on a chase and K-9 search in Santa Monica Sunday night, according to the Santa Monica Police Department.

The attempted murder happened about 8:44 p.m. in the 1900 block of Cloverfield Boulevard, near Delaware Avenue, Santa Monica Police Lt. Rudy Flores said. The victim was not injured.

"The suspect was reported to have fled the area on foot prior to police arrival," Flores said.

Officers then located a possible suspect in the 200 block of Virginia Avenue and attempted to contact him. The suspect then ran away and a perimeter was set up for a K-9 search on the ground while a Los Angeles Police Department Air helicopter search over the area.

Suspect Jeremy Gonzalez, 29, was located and taken into custody a short time after, police said. He was taken to a hospital after sustaining a laceration to his hand while jumping over a fence.

He was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, domestic violence and criminal threats, police said.

Gonzalez was booked and held at $1M bail. He is scheduled to appear in court Tuesday in Los Angeles.
