Car Hits, Seriously Injures Bicyclist In East County
A bicyclist suffered severe head trauma when he was struck by a car in El Cajon, police said.
EL CAJON, CA — A bicyclist suffered severe head trauma when he was struck by a car in El Cajon, police said Thursday.
The crash happened about 7 p.m. Wednesday on South First Street near Lexington Avenue, according to El Cajon police.
Investigators determined a man was riding in a bicycle lane on South First Street when a sedan struck him while making a turn into a driveway, Lt. Darrin Forster said.

The victim, whose age was not immediately available, was taken to Sharp Memorial Hospital in San Diego for treatment of head trauma and a possible broken femur, Forster said.
An update on the man's condition was not immediately available, and it remains unclear if the bicyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The sedan's driver remained at the scene, and intoxication was not believed to have been a factor in the crash, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
