Crews Work to Contain 515-Acre Fire East of Mount Laguna

The blaze erupted for unknown reasons west of county Highway S-2 in the Canebrake Canyon area about 9 a.m. Saturday.

CANEBRAKE CANYON, CA — Firefighters working to douse hot spots at the scene of a weekend wildfire that blackened about 515 open acres in rugged terrain east of Mount Laguna had the burn area roughly 25% contained Monday.

The blaze erupted for unknown reasons west of county Highway S-2 in the Canebrake Canyon area about 9 a.m. Saturday, according to Cal Fire. Ground crews had to be flown in by helicopter to the remote area, the state agency reported.

Firefighters had the spread of the flames halted as of Saturday afternoon.
