Lost Hikers Hoisted Off El Cajon Mountain
The two hikers were rescued by a sheriff's helicopter Friday evening after they became lost in cold, wet weather.

A pair of hikers unprepared for the cold, wet weather was hoisted off of El Cajon Mountain by a sheriff’s helicopter Friday evening. One of the hikers was shaking uncontrollably and was taken to Grossmont Hospital.
According to Sgt. Mike Forbes, a 46-year-old female and a 56-year-old male called 911 on a cell phone around 5:40 p.m. and reported that they were lost on the mountain. The weather was cold and rainy and the hikers were not properly equipped for the conditions.
A sheriff’s helicopter was able to determine that the hikers were on the El Monte side of the mountain, although the pilot was unable to see the hikers due to the weather, according to Forbes.

A search and rescue team was sent to find the hikers, and when the weather cleared the helicopter successfully made visual contact with the pair, who were in a remote ravine with limited access. The helicopter crew hoisted them aboard and brought them to safety, according to Forbes.
The female’s condition was not released by authorities, and the male was given a ride to his vehicle. Â
