Motorcyclist Killed In I-8 Onramp Crash In East County

EL CAJON, CA – A motorcyclist was killed Wednesday in a collision with a truck on an El Cajon freeway onramp.

The victim was riding to the west on Greenfield Drive shortly before noon when an oncoming full-size pickup struck his two-wheeler broadside while its driver made a left turn against a red light at the entrance to eastbound Interstate 8, according to the El Cajon Police Department.

The motorcyclist, whose name was not immediately available, died at the scene of the crash.

"Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in this collision," ECPD Lt Jason Taub said.

The accident forced closures of the connector and one westbound lane on the adjacent street, and prompted the California Highway Patrol to issue a congestion alert for the area.

The affected traffic lanes were open again as of 1:15 p.m., according to Caltrans.
