Saratoga, CA (Dec. 11, 2018)—The Hakone Foundation today announced the following 2019 dates for their top annual events at Hakone Estate and Gardens. Fans of the historic treasure—one of the oldest Japanese gardens in the U.S.—can mark their calendars so they don’t miss the most popular events of the year, from the Lunar New Year to Hakone Matsuri festivals. Proceeds from the events benefit the Hakone Foundation, whose mission is to conserve and enhance Hakone Estate and Gardens for the enjoyment and benefit of the public, preserve its Japanese authenticity for future generations, promote a deeper understanding of Asian Cultures and to serve as a global forum for art, music, culture, and ideas. 11th Annual Hakone Lunar New Year’s Festival
Celebrate the Year of the Pig and Asian culture at this event, which features face changing performances, dragon and lion dances, martial arts demonstrations, craft booths and traditional music.

2nd Annual Cherry Blossom Nighttime Viewings
Back by popular demand – the 2ndCherry Blossom viewings will return this year, giving guests the rare opportunity to see the spectacular blooms and garden lit up at night.
April/May 2019
Hakone’s authentic Japanese gardens strut their stuff in the spring, bringing a kaleidoscope of cool colors—from pink and purple to white—in the wisteria, azaleas, camellias, rhododendrons and more. Perfect for selfies!

20th Annual Hakone Matsuri
Hakone’s most popular event, the Matsuri (a.k.a. Spring) festival organizers invite everyone to experience the best of the Bay Area’s deep Japanese cultural roots through Japanese food and beer, kid’s activities, as well as entertainment, from Tsugaru Shamisen music and martial arts demonstrations to calligraphy, wedding kimono sales and authentic tea demonstrations.

Annual Hakone Foundation Gala
Fans of the gardens are invited to the Hakone Foundation’s leading fundraiser for the year! The 2019 Gala will feature a concert by June Kuramoto of the famed jazz group Hiroshima, and delicious pre-concert hors d’oeuvres. Proceeds benefit Hakone Master Plan projects, the first of which debuted in November (koi pond improvements).

The gardens once again show off—this time in warm tones of yellow, orange, red and brown—for the public to enjoy.
Events are free for the above events—except the gala—with the cost of admission for the gardens, which is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. Children 4 and under enter for free. Part of proceeds from vendor sales benefit the Hakone Foundation. All of the proceeds from the gala benefit the foundation.
