“The Crane Wife” tells the haunting story of a poor man who finds an injured crane and nurses it back to health. When he sets it free, a woman appears at his door whom he falls in love with and marries. To make more money, she offers to weave beautiful silk clothes they can sell—but only if he agrees never to watch her making them. They begin to become wealthier, and in his greed, he ignores her declining health. He spies on her to find out how she makes the silk so desirable, and discovers a crane plucking feathers from her own body and weaving them into the loom. The crane sees him and flies away—never to return.
“My work is a straightforward exploration in geometric abstraction that trends toward minimalism,” Taylor said. “My work is highly scripted improvisation; I make the complex look simple. I strive to capture the viewers’ imagination without making my process obviously known.”
