In Memory of Steven J. Wong: Accomplished, Caring, Fun-Loving Community Supporter

Steven J. Wong, a resident of Saratoga for 30 years, died on April 22, 2014. He was 63. 

Born in San Francisco to Bing and Annie Wong, he and his family soon moved to East Palo Alto, where he would spend the rest of his childhood. 

As a student at Ravenswood High School, he was active in band, football, Circle K, Junior Achievement and other non-profits. 

Steve earned a BS in Earth Science from Stanford University in 1972 and an MBA from the University of Notre Dame in 1974. 

Steve worked as an Environmental Engineer, Financial Analyst, Controller, VP of Finance and CFO. He was CFO of several companies, including Rasna, Sqribe, Rainfinity and, most recently, Xetus. 

On the non-profit level, Steve supported AYSO, Saratoga Education Foundation (SEF), Saratoga Athletic Boosters, Saratoga Music Boosters and any other entity related to his children’s interests. 

More recently, Steve served as CFO of Saratoga Area Senior Coordinating Council, which serves and cares for the needs of Saratoga area seniors. 

He was also an active member of the Kiwanis Club of De Anza. 

Steve had a knack for making everyone feel at ease around him, an infectious sense of humor, and an endearing sense of fun. He will be sorely missed. 

He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Rich and Jenny Wong; Verna, his wife of 30 years; his sons, Bryan, Eric and Ian; and cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws. 

The viewing will be held at Alameda Family Funeral and Cremation, 12341 Saratoga-Sunnyvale Road in Saratoga on Saturday, May 17, from 11:30 a.m. – 2 p.m. Interment will be at Madronia Cemetery in Saratoga. 

A memorial celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Sunday, May 18, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Event Center of West Valley College, 14000 Fruitvale Ave., Saratoga. 

The family asks that friends and family consider donating to SASCC, the Kiwanis Club of De Anza, American Heart Association, or a non-profit of your choice, in Steve’s memory.
