New Outdoor Patio at Jake's of Saratoga Increases Customer Traffic

In October, the popular pizzeria near Calabazas Creek opened a patio for customers to enjoy the food and sun.

Saratoga residents and visitors alike often take note not just of the city’s charm and dining options, but also its perpetually sunny climate.

The owners of the popular pizzeria Jake's of Saratoga were certainly thinking of the weather when they added an outdoor patio with 30 new seats in October, setting the Saratoga location apart from its six other South Bay spots.

“The foot traffic has really increased,” said Manager Paul Burke of the renovations that he estimates cost in the $30,000 to $35,000 range.

“It’s a really nice area, right by the Calabasas Creek, wildlife and trees,” he added. The business is on 12175 Sunnyvale Saratoga Road, about three miles down the road from De Anza College in Cupertino.

“We used to bring the kids there after sporting events,” said Saratoga Mayor Chuck Page about after-game outings with his two daughters. “The patio is a great new addition for people to enjoy the great weather.”

Established in 1979, the restaurant describes itself as offering “casual dining in a friendly atmosphere,” and that it’s “the perfect meeting place for lunch, a family night out, or the rendezvous spot for your sports team!”

“Shoes and shirts required. Pants optional,” jokes the pizzeria’s Facebook page. There are also locations in Campbell, Sunnyvale, Willow Glen, Menlo Park, Los Altos and, as of 2010, Los Gatos.

The pizzeria carries several savory offerings, such as the “Gilroy Special,” a mixture of zesty ranch sauce, chives, green onions, Monterey Jack Cheese, Italian sausage and of course, garlic.

In addition to pizza, customers can find hot grilled sandwiches, burgers with all the trimmings, salads and -- this being Saratoga-- California wines.
