Remembering the Late Saratoga City Councilwoman Susie Nagpal

Beloved civic leader left a legacy of volunteerism and public service.

Friends and family remembered this past week former Saratoga City Councilwoman Susie Nagpal, who died three years ago in May of 2010.

According to her obituary on the Legacy.com website, Nagpal died after a seven-month battle with lung cancer. She was 46.

Nagpal was the first member of the Saratoga City Council of Indian descent, having been elected in 2008.

She left behind husband Amit, two children, parents Sundarajan and Nirmala Vedantham and sister Jayshree Ullal.

She also served on the Saratoga Planning Commission from 2003 to 2008.

At City Hall, 13777 Fruitvale Ave., Susie's Garden serves as a place of reflection and a reminder of Nagpal's legacy of public service and volunteerism in Saratoga.

A plaque, on the stone border surrounding a section of the garden, reads: "And if the day comes that will keep us apart, I want you to know you will forever be in my heart."
