The Saratoga City Council decided to install the sign, located south of Cox Avenue, after it was discussed at an Oct. 17 Council meeting, said Kristin Borel, Saratoga’s Public Works analyst.
“It’s very consistant with the flow of the neighborhood, since there is a stop sign at every major intersection nearby,” said Borel.

Reasoning for the sign was expressed in a Public Works Department report.
Residents were concerned because traffic was not stopping at the intersection and the right of way was unclear. “It’s a wide-open area where a right-of-way is not obvious,” said Borel.
The project will cost the city $250 in labor and materials, said Borel, and will be installed in the next month, although there is not yet an exact date.
The Public Works Department only needs to receive one request about a safety issue to bring it up at a council meeting, said Borel.
“If it’s a safety issue, it’s a safety issue,” said Borel, pointing out that a Saratogan originally made the request in September.
She encouraged anyone else with a public safety concern or issue to contact the department, which can be reached by phone at 408-868-1245.
“Whenever a resident requests a stop sign, I schedule it,” said Borel. “I then have a commission that reviews it.”
The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department, which provides patrol services for the city, will also be notified of the restriction.
