Saratoga City Council Chooses New Mayor, Vice Mayor
Also: re-elected Council members took a new oath of office.

SARATOGA, CA -- The Saratoga City Council will have new leadership for the next 12 months.
On Dec. 15, the five-member Council unanimously appointed member Emily Lo as Mayor and Mary-Lynne Bernald as Vice Mayor. Lo was first elected to the City Council in 2010 and reelected in 2014. She was born and raised in Hong Kong and graduated from the University of Hong Kong, receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Social Science. She and her family moved to the United States in 1989.
Lo has run her own promotional products business for more than 10 years and is a former past president of the Saratoga Chamber of Commerce. She served a previous one-year stint as mayor from December 2013 to December 2014.

Also during the Council meeting, newly re-elected Councilmembers Manny Cappello and Howard Miller took the Oath of Office and officially started their new terms.
Additionally, outgoing Mayor Manny Cappello was recognized for his service and leadership over the past year.

The five Saratoga City Council members are elected by the public, but its the Council that appoints a mayor and vice-mayor from its membership, with the vice-mayor serving as a sort-deputy mayor. The city's mayor has no veto power, but as the head of government chairs the Council meetings.
