Soccer Coach Accused Of Sexual Misconduct Placed On Unpaid Leave

The Campbell school District placed him on unpaid leave upon learning of his arrest on sex crimes involving a student per SC Co. Sheriff's.

SARATOGA, CA -- Following his arrest this week for sexual misconduct allegations, a part-time Prospect High School soccer coach has been placed on "unpaid leave," a Campbell Union High School District spokeswoman told Patch.

Jansen Estrada, 24, of Sunnyvale is being accused of molestation of a minor - in this case, a 14-year-old girl who played on the man's team, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department contends. He also faces charges of oral copulation, sexual battery and penetration with a foreign object. He was booked in the Santa Clara County Main Jail.

The district insists the employee was required to successfully complete a background check in accordance with applicable law before he started working for the school.

"The safety and well-being of our students is always our highest priority. These disturbing allegations, if found to be true, are at odds with our district’s mission to make our schools a place where students are safe, supported and valued," the school district said in a prepared statement. "Campbell Union High School District has and will continue to work with the sheriff’s office during the course of this investigation. School sites and the district Office are closed this week for presidents’ break."

Upon a tip from a family member of the student who played on the man's team, county sheriff's deputies were dispatched Saturday at 4:46 p.m. to a residence in San Jose for a report of a prior sexual assault of a minor. Deputies were contacted by the victim's family after her mother believed that her daughter may be a victim of sexual assault.

The county sheriff's office conducted a full investigation.

During the investigation, deputies determined Estrada also worked as an eighth-grade tutor at Moreland Middle School and Easterbrook Discovery School, both located in San Jose.

"It is a deplorable act to be in a position of power and prey on the innocence of a young girl. As a law enforcement agency, we are committed to protect those who are most vulnerable. This is a reminder to have open dialogue with your children and stay vigilant by monitoring their activity," Sheriff Laurie Smith said.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Sheriff's detectives are working closely with the schools and district to ensure there are no other victims.
