Plant-Based Advocates is conducting a survey of local residents to gauge interest in eating more plant-based foods.
"The results will help us promote plant-based eating to residents and local restaurants, and give us an idea of what tools are most useful for people transitioning away from a meat- and dairy-centric diet," group member Karen Rubio said in a statement.
Interest in plant-based diets has skyrocketed over the last few years and continues to build steadily. According to a report by ResearchAndMarkets, the global vegan food market was valued at $14.2 billion in 2018 and is expected to reach $31.4 billion by 2026 - a compound annual growth rate of 10.5% from 2019 to 2026.

At the same time, people are becoming more aware of the link between their food choices and climate change. A recent report by Climate Healers states that nimal agriculture accounts for 'at least' 87 percent of annual greenhouse gas emissions. The paper, Animal Agriculture is the Leading Cause of Climate Change, states that focusing exclusively on the reduction of fossil fuel burning will 'accelerate climate change, potentially to the point of no return'.
"Our food choices matter," says Rubio. "When we eat plant-based we use vastly less resources - water, crops, energy. As more and more people switch to eating vegan, we can start to reverse the enormous damage we're causing and start healing our planet."
