Vigil Planned For Catherine Kuo, Saratoga Native, Sunday

The memorial for the longtime Dublin volunteer, wife and mother is open to the public. Kuo, 48, was a Dublin schools trustee.

DUBLIN, CA — A candlelight vigil in tribute to the life of Catherine Kuo will be held Sunday.

The memorial for Kuo will be held 7 p.m. Sunday at Emerald Glen Park in Dublin.

There will be speeches from a pastor, Kuo's sister, a family friend and Dublin Unified School District board president Dan Cherrier. Pen and paper will be offered to friends and community members who want to leave a message. Those messages will be collected in a basket.

Attendees are encouraged to bring posters or restaurant gift cards for Kuo's family.

Guests should also try to bring a battery-powered candle or a smartphone candle app since there will be a limited amount of candles and the wind may present an issue. Attendees are also asked to wear a mask.

Her loved ones remember her as a "superhero" for the community of Dublin.

Kuo, 48, was a wife and mother of two who called Dublin home for more than two decades. As a Dublin Unified School District trustee, she sought to create better opportunities for local youth, particularly girls and minority students, according to her bio. She was remembered as a woman of faith, and role model for Asian American and Pacific Islander students who worked tirelessly to serve her community and family.

The following community and family members will speak at the vigil from 7:05 to 7:35 p.m.

After her friends and family speak to attendees, there will be an opportunity for candlelighting and reflection.

Kuo was born in Redwood City and raised in Saratoga. She received a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of California, Los Angeles.

She was volunteering at Fallon Middle School Wednesday when she was involved in a car crash. Kuo soon succumbed to her injuries.

An online GoFundMe fundraiser for Kuo's family has garnered $73,000 in donations since it was created Wednesday night.
